Ronja's Path to Becoming a Digital and Print Media Specialist at MVB

In Conversation with the Trainers: A look back at the Application Phase and the First Few Weeks

The training of digital and print media specialists, trainees and dual students in the Börsenvereinsgruppe has a long tradition and is an important part of our company. We are continuing along this path this year. Ronja joined the trio of trainees at MVB in August, consisting of two more trainees in their second and third year. It is now almost two months since she started. In an interview with her trainers Katharina and Valeska, Ronja looks back on the apprenticeship search phase and her first few weeks at the company.

Katharina: Ronja, how are you doing after your first few weeks at MVB and in the team of your first department, Customer Service?

Ronja: I'm really enjoying my apprenticeship so far. It offers exciting insights into the book industry and perspectives that I didn't know before. I particularly like the fact that I have the opportunity to contribute my personal opinions and views and that I am given a lot of responsibility. Another highlight is working with the team at the Frankfurter Buchmesse and gaining insights behind the scenes. At first I was unsure whether an office job was right for me, but the variety of different experiences and challenges means I never get bored!

Valeska: Was this what you had in mind when you applied?

Ronja: I had already been able to get an idea of the apprenticeship beforehand. I first came across the possibility of training to become a digital and print media specialist when I was at sixth form as a substitute for the internship that I had missed out on due to coronavirus. After intensively studying the structure and process of the apprenticeship, it was clear to me that this was definitely an option after leaving school! I had always wanted to do something related to books.

Katharina: Fortunately, that worked out well. At the Börsenvereinsgruppe and MVB, you are right at the heart of the book industry. Did you already know our company beforehand?

Ronja: I already knew MVB from the Frankfurt Buchmesse which I had visited several times, but I had never thought about doing an apprenticeship there. I found the job advertisement by chance via a portal and since then I've been happy to have chosen this path

What was actually important to you when you started the search for a new trainee?

Katharina: During the application search process, for example, it is important to us to have a convincing application. We also look at extracurricular or non-school activities. This shows us that the applicant is also committed outside of school and studies and is alert in life. If we like an application, as in your case, we will first arrange an online interview. In this interview, we are completely open to the applicant and respond to individual questions. Of course, we want to get to know the person and find out why they are interested in the apprenticeship and in us as a training company. You were able to describe this to us well in this first interview.

Valeska: In addition, the conversation with you was very relaxed right from the start and we already had a good “vibe” in the online conversation. You were able to talk very vividly about your school days as well as the time after school when you were still working part-time. We very quickly got to talking about the apprenticeship, our company and you personally.

Ronja: Why was a second personal interview at the Haus des Buches in Frankfurt important to you?

Katharina: On the one hand, we wanted to show you the training location, but above all we wanted to experience you as an applicant “up close”, without a screen in between. We also wanted to take the opportunity to expand on the topics from the first interview and find out together with you whether we are a good match. A second interview like this is always very helpful.

Valeska: The informal and relaxed atmosphere from our first interview was there again. I think we all quickly realized during the second interview that the search for an apprenticeship was successfully over and that we could sign the contract. Two months later, the good feeling from the interviews continues. You are enthusiastic and happy every day and always report on your tasks with a smile in our weekly trainee meetings. It's fun to see that you like being here and that you have found your way into the team and your tasks. And we are happy that we made the right decision for each other.

Ronja: That's exactly how I feel.
